Industrial Maintenance Technician
Company: American Polymer Company (APC)
Location: Production Facility
Position Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
American Polymer Company (APC) is seeking a skilled, highly motivated Industrial Maintenance Technician to keep our multi-process manufacturing operations running at peak efficiency. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of production equipment across our thermoplastic, thermoset, and precast molding operations.
Our manufacturing environment is fast-paced, heavy-duty, and relies on complex machinery to produce grade-level utility enclosures. As a key member of the operations team, you will focus on minimizing downtime, diagnosing root causes of equipment failures, executing practical repairs, and ensuring all machinery operates safely and reliably.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose and repair complex electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic failures on production machinery, including hydraulic presses, polymer molding machines, batch mixers, overhead cranes, pumps, and conveyance systems.
- Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Execute scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) routines on all plant machinery, tools, and facility equipment to maximize uptime and extend equipment lifespan.
- Electrical Work: Troubleshoot electrical systems up to 480V 3-phase, including electric motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, relays, transformers, and basic PLC input/output diagnostics.
- Fluid Power & Mechanical Repair: Repair and rebuild hydraulic circuits, pumps, valves, cylinders, pneumatic actuators, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, and power transmission components.
- Tooling & Mold Support: Assist operations with heavy mold sets/changes, process setups, and physical alignment of tooling; inspect and perform basic maintenance on molds and auxiliary tooling.
- Fabrication & Welding: Perform basic metal fabrication, cutting, grinding, and stick/MIG welding for equipment repairs, guards, and shop improvements.
- Safety & EHS Compliance: Strictly adhere to all safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Arc Flash, Machine Guarding, Confined Space Entry, and Hot Work. Actively identify and correct physical machinery hazards on the floor.
- CMMS & Work Orders: Log all work performed, parts used, downtime causes, and equipment history accurate in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to unexpected equipment breakdowns on the production floor to safely minimize production disruptions.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; technical degree or trade certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or Electrical/Mechanical Technology preferred.
- 3–5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a heavy manufacturing or production environment (experience in plastics, polymer molding, or precast concrete is a strong plus).
- Strong mechanical aptitudes with proven experience in hydraulic systems, pneumatic circuits, and heavy mechanical drives.
- Solid industrial electrical troubleshooting skills (up to 480V 3-phase circuits, control panels, and sensor wiring).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
- Basic understanding of PLC systems and control logic for troubleshooting purposes.
- Experience operating overhead bridge cranes, rigging equipment, forklifts, and aerial lifts safely.
- Practical welding and torch operation skills are highly desirable.
- A practical, hands-on problem solver with strong attention to detail and a commitment to doing repairs right the first time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk for extended periods, and work in a non-climate-controlled heavy industrial setting.
